Dividend Portfolio Update for December 2022

Happy new years! What a rollercoaster of a ride 2022 has turned out to be! A year filled with lots of great lessons investors can take with them for decades to come. Don’t let a bad year discourage you! In fact, bad years are almost always followed by better ones. Stay invested and keep investing for you and your family’s future. Investing through years like these make us better investors in the long run.

I feel like a kid in a toy store lately. Lots of great businesses at far better prices today than I have seen in many years. With no plans to sell and still in my accumulation phase, I hope I am smart enough to continue to invest in the right companies with great runways for decades to come.

A new year and a new goal!

10k in dividend goal has been completed! I’m taking baby steps but when looking back they look like monster steps! So what is my next baby step?

I have been thinking about this for quite a while and I decided to go with something I believe will align well over time with my longer-term goals.

I wanted a goal that will help me live in the present more than the future. I have been making a slow and gradual transition over the years into more passive instruments like etf’s, cefs, and even funds. Investing can really leave you living in the future. I also have been cutting back on my reading purposefully. I want to give more of my time to my loved ones and puppies.

Balance is the goal and to achieve this I decided to season this portfolio with more passive instruments.

The goal is to start by adding 500 shares of ticker QQQ to this portfolio. Hopefully, the price comes down so I can achieve this goal relatively quickly!

The Q’s are a popular choice by many growth investors. I have been investing in the Q’s for a very long time and found the holdings to nearly always be in line with the companies I like. The cost to own is cheap and historically a strong performer. It has a tiny yield currently at 0.80% but has a relatively decent 5 year dividend growth rate at 10.4%. It mostly holds mega caps tech stocks that are starting to mature and could slowly pay out more dividends soon.

There are other reasons why I am adding the QQQ’s here in the dividend portfolio, but I will get into those reasons later in the future. So, that is the new goal!

Let’s get the numbers in the books for the year, shall we?!

  • Net contributions to portfolio this month: $9,618.51
  • Purchased 3 shares of QQQ with 497 more to go! 😅

That wraps up this year! Are you excited about next year? I sure am! I expect 2023 will likely be a very subdued year for the markets. Not expecting much but excited about how much I can acquire during these times! See you next year everyone! 🚀🚀🚀
