Dividend Portfolio Update for November 2023

This month I lost an irreplaceable mentor in my life, Charlie Munger. His teachings have left a profound impact on my life with one particular lesson standing out above the rest, the profound understanding of why acquiring knowledge is essential. He helped guide me to discover my “why” I should become a lifelong learning machine.

Charlie Munger’s wisdom, encapsulated in his words, continue to resonate with me on a deep level, evolving and gaining new layers of significance each time I revisit them many years later.

Beyond helping mature my capabilities as an investor, he also played a role in shaping my philosophical outlook in life which I later discovered a stoic mindset.

“Generally speaking, envy, resentment, revenge, and self-pity are disastrous modes of thought. Self-pity gets pretty close to paranoia… Every time you find yourself drifting into self-pity, I don’t care what the cause, your child could be dying from cancer, self-pity is not going to improve the situation. It’s a ridiculous way to behave. Life will have terrible blows, horrible blows, unfair blows, it doesn’t matter. Some people recover and others don’t.

There I think the attitude of Epictetus is the best. He thought that every mischance in life was an opportunity to behave well. Every mischance in life was an opportunity to learn something and that your duty was not to be immersed in self-pity, but to utilize the terrible blow in a constructive fashion. That is a very good idea.” -Charlie Munger

Rest in peace Charlie Munger, your wisdom will continue to guide and inspire many generations to come.
